Why Buy British Flowers?

What's better than a bouquet of flowers? A bouquet of British-grown flowers. Around 80% of flowers sold by supermarkets and florists are currently imported from Holland and even as far away as Ecuador and Colombia. It’s clear that we are more conscious than ever about our carbon footprint when it comes to food production, but we might not think about the damaging impact of our imported flowers on the environment. Imported flowers can have 10 times the carbon footprint of British flowers. Not only are you being more environmentally conscious when you buy British flowers, but you are also supporting your local economy, ecology – and your nose.

Let’s move on to your nose. Have you ever found yourself sniffing a bouquet of flowers and being completely underwhelmed by the lack of fragrance? This is because many flowers from abroad have been bred to allow for shipping time, mass production and low costs rather than fragrance and quality.

If you pop your nose into a bouquet of flowers grown on a small British farm you will have an entirely different experience. We don’t grow flowers to create acres of perfectly even blooms, but rather we grow small quantities of many different flowers so that they’ll create much more interesting, colourful and wonderfully fragrant bouquets. Buying locally opens up a whole new world of beautifully delicate and sweet-smelling blooms that can’t be shipped from abroad. Our flowers are picked at the correct stage and go straight into water, so will reach you at their freshest point and without the need to wrap them in nasty plastic.

We believe that when you buy British flowers, you're saying no to plastic wrapping and pesticides, and yes to sustainable practices, that keep our planet green. It’s time to stand up and smell the roses!
